Immigration

The United States of America was built to amazing greatness from the beginning by immigrants from other lands. The horrible and well-documented crimes perpetrated against indigenous peoples notwithstanding, America has become a truly diverse and exceptionally free country among the nations of the world. Americans to this day speak about their ancestors: Scotch-Irish, Britsh Isles and Low Countries, German and Scandinavian, southern Mediterranean, eastern European, Middle Eastern Semitic, Asian subcontinent, Southeast Asia and China and the Far East, not to mention sub-Saharan Africa and Central and South America. The Eden Party believes in honoring the contributions of all Americans and their immigrant ancestors and ensuring that America remains a country open to all people desiring to contribute to the American Dream.

We do recognize the absolute right of nations to control their borders. The United States of America has a rigorous process already in place that strives to monitor who is entering our country and who remains in the country. Through the steady work of Customs and Border Patrol agents at airports and other entry points, The Eden Party believes in a maintenance and strengthening of our system of laws regarding immigration. We would devote resources to equipping our southern borders with the legal manpower to process more quickly claims made for asylum and refugee status: more lawyers, judges, and judicial aids to make the process more efficient. We would devote resources to better patrol borders to combat illegal entry to a degree that doesn't impinge on human rights and international laws and treaties to which America is party.

The Eden Party desires to be proactive with regard to immigration. We need to examine the conditions that currently exist in countries from which many of our current immigrant flee. Several countries in Central America are becoming failed states, and we have to ask ourselves why? And the Eden Party, with a rigorous foreign policy that emphasizes human rights and self-determination plus the Westphalian concept of equilibrium and sovereignty, will attempt to rectify these failed governing entities.  Countries that fail their citizens require humanitarian intervention, not in terms of weapons and arming unvetted rebels, but in terms of guidance and support in transitioning to states that respect law and order, We have discussed our manner of Foreign Policy in a previous post, but here we can express a parameter of foreign aid from American tax coffers that involve consolidation of internal political entities in a given country requiring (or desiring) our largess. That is, we assist these political entities in creating platform documents and political manifests that outline their style of governance and goals for their country's future, assist in promulgating these political platforms through an upgraded information infrastructure, and give the people time to review the documents of the political parties, and ensure that all political parties pledge to respect results of elections and then implement a free and fair election. This tactic of intervention is far less expensive than choosing sides in civil conflicts and arming these pro-American entities with weapons and other nefarious modalities. This tactic of intervention is also more in line with our models of sovereignty, self-sufficiency that undergird any nation's right to exist.
