The foreign policy of the United States of America is beholden to special interests. In this case, there is evidence of an entrenched "deep state" bureaucracy that remains intimately tied to Cold War mentalities and to confrontational diplomacy awash in double standards, inconsistency, corporate deference and massive amounts of fraud and government waste.
Realizing fully that mutually beneficial international relations with as many countries as possible can stave off economic and environmental ruin, The Eden Party pledges to institute a foreign policy that is wholly consistent with the founding principles of our country, the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, the principles of plurality and equality for all world denizens. Under the Eden Party, countries that institute legal regimens that discriminate against minorities and fail to respect internationally recognized borders will be given short shrift. Countries around the world that maintain bellicose relations with neighbors for contrived reasons of self-preservation will also be marginalized. The Eden Party believes in a world order whereby countries are permitted to function internally as they see fit, but nations that do not or cannot subscribe to our enlightened values will be kept on the margins of our largess and responsibilities as a world leader.
We as a country have no problem in intervening in the affairs of nations, provided these nations request intervention AND these countries can provide evidence of political destiny that is in line with enlightened standards of plurality and righteousness. Freedom of the press, freedom of worship, freedom of speech are only a few criteria the Eden Party will use the judge a country worthy of our assistance. We can assist countries in transitioning from dictatorial, autocratic, theocratic regimes to enlightened regimes that codify a legal system that treats everyone equally. The Eden Party will not invest American resources in nations that fail to uphold internationally recognized standards of decency and respect.
The American people want solutions to world conflicts that improve our national well-being inside of our borders and in friendly countries. The Eden Party supports the maintenance of an American standard of living that is safe and ruled by agreed upon laws that fall in line with the constitution of the United States of America. Direct involvement in the conflicts other nations, friend or foe, must rely on an idea calculus that prioritizes the well-being of the vast majority of all American citizens. History shows clearly that our recent wars have only made our well-being worse.
Take for example, the Middle East, an area that includes a wide variety of conflict-riddled, mostly corrupt nations, almost all of whom espouse values that are the opposite of those of our founding fathers and mothers. Our country has shown a remarkable tendency to choose sides in these conflicts which only aggravate the long-standing disputes that underpin the current state of affairs in the Middle East. Intertwined with that foreign policy apparatus that has failed many around the world, including Americans, with a national American energy policy dominated by fossil fuels and the vast fortunes to be made extracting this vital resource from the ground, and we get a situation of negative feedback loops that nourish unsustainable foreign policy approaches. The waste from these unsustainable foreign policy approaches has become too high a financial burden to our country and a real danger to the citizens of the countries whose corrupt regimes we protect.
Our involvement in the affairs of other nations should only be decided by international law and national self-interest. If countries would like to invite us into their lands to assist in building democratic institutions, communications and energy infrastructure, etc, the Eden Party would support the involvement in foreign countries. If countries need assistance in bullying minorities in their borders, stealing from their national treasuries, encroaching on neighboring borders, attacking neighboring countries, etc, then the Eden Party would oppose it but offer solutions to solve their internal and external problems.
The Eden Party of the United States of America believes our country to be a shining beacon on the hill that can be used to espouse around the world models of freedom in all areas of life. The Eden Party also believes the USA should remain active and participate constructively in international organizations so that we can project our platform of freedom, pluralism, equity and respect for just laws to all around the world.
Foreign policy, energy policy, manufacturing and business, science and technology are so intertwined in our modern society that to speak about one topic while ignoring the others is inexact and imprecise. We will cover these issues one by one in subsequent posts.
